A 54 year old cyclist has died on the spot of an accident scene, after he was struck by a vehicle in an attempt to cross Zambezi Road in Lusaka this morning.
The victim identified as 54-year-old David Kakoma, hailing from Nallende Village of chief Nalopu in Senanga District, who was cycling from North to South and tragically sustained fatal injuries in the accident.
The fatal road traffic accident occurred today at around 08:10 hours, opposite Mikalile complex, casting a somber mood over the community.
According to eyewitnesses and preliminary police reports the accident occurred when the cyclist attempted to cross the road from east to west.
The driver involved in the accident was identified as 46-year-old Bwalya Lwando Patricia, a resident of 10-Miles area.
Zambia Police Service spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said through a statement that Patricia was driving a Toyota Altis bearing registration number AID 9421 and heading from North to South at the time of the collision.
"The vehicle sustained significant damage, including a depressed bumper, a shattered windscreen, a damaged left headlamp, and a broken left side view mirror," Hamoonga said.
Kakoma's lifeless body was later taken to the University Teaching Hospital mortuary, awaiting a postmortem examination.
